In response to the densely foliated site which falls steeply towards the Potomac River, the program was broken upto create smaller "pavilions" which could be set INTO the site, preserving the natural terrain and tree cover. The river and natural environment dominated the design. Boat-shaped balconies project from the building. Flat glass skylights are supported by stainless steel "masts and rigging." Handrail sections are based on the profile of a gingko leaf.

Materials are simple, primarily white stucco walls with a Buckingham slate roof. Exposed concrete, stainless steel rails, cherry millwork and limestone floors provide rich details throughout the house.
